Connect Meta Ads (CAPI)

Scowtt sends its predicted values to Meta through the Conversions API (CAPI), as a new custom event inside your existing dataset. For initial setup, steps 1 to 4 are all that's required.

Before you start

  • Admin access to your Meta Business Manager, Events Manager and ad account.
  • A login for the Scowtt app from your Sales Rep or Account Manager.
  • Your BAU campaigns identified, so you can check how they optimize.

Initial setup

  1. Confirm BAU optimizes on a specific event

Open the live BAU campaign and check, at the ad set level, that the performance goal names a single event such as Purchase, not the dataset as a whole. Then, in Events Manager, check that no custom conversions BAU relies on use broad rules that would pick up Scowtt's new custom event. If you can't confirm both, stop here and set up a new dataset instead, following Set up a new Meta dataset for Scowtt. For help, contact Scowtt or reach out to your Sales Rep or Account Manager.

  2. Generate a dataset access token

In Events Manager, go to Datasets and select the dataset BAU already uses. Open Settings and scroll to Set up direct integration. Click Generate access token, select the dataset in the popup and generate the token. Copy and save the token, then copy the Dataset ID from the same Settings page.

  3. Connect Meta Ads in Scowtt

In the Scowtt app, go to Integrations, choose Meta Ads and click Connect. Paste the Dataset (Pixel) ID and the access token, then click Connect. Meta Ads should show as Connected under Connected Products.

  4. Share ad account access with Scowtt

Give read-only ad account access to Scowtt's Meta Business Manager ID. This lets Scowtt review campaign setup and reporting. Your Sales Rep or Account Manager will provide this during onboarding.

After Scowtt starts sending events

  1. Verify events are flowing

In Events Manager, open your dataset's Overview. Your usual pixel events, such as PageView, ViewContent and AddToCart, should still be active, and your existing purchase pixel keeps firing as normal. Scowtt's custom event, for example Scowtt MQL, should appear under Events, coming through the Conversions API.

Tip: If your dataset has Core Setup turned on, the custom event must be reviewed and approved before it appears. Meta explains how in its help article.

Troubleshooting

Our BAU campaigns optimize on the whole dataset

Don't use your existing dataset. Set up a new dataset for Scowtt instead, following Set up a new Meta dataset for Scowtt. For help, contact Scowtt or reach out to your Sales Rep or Account Manager.

The Scowtt event isn't showing in Events Manager

Check whether Core Setup is on for the dataset; if so, approve the custom event. If it's still missing, contact your Sales Rep or Account Manager.
