Capturing click IDs on your forms

A click ID is a code an ad platform adds to the link when someone clicks your ad, such as GCLID for Google or FBCLID for Meta. Saving it with each lead lets Scowtt send the lead's predicted value back to the exact ad click that brought them in.

Why it matters

Without a click ID, the platform can't match Scowtt's signal to the right ad, so the lead can't help campaigns learn. Missing click IDs are one of the most common reasons uploads fail.

How to capture them

  1. Read the click ID from the page link

When someone lands on your site from an ad, the click ID appears in the page address, for example ?gclid= for Google or ?fbclid= for Meta.

  2. Save it in a hidden form field

Add hidden fields to your lead forms that store the click ID when the form is submitted. Many form tools and tag managers can do this for you.

  3. Pass it to your CRM

Map the hidden fields to fields on the lead record in your CRM, so every new lead keeps its click ID.

  4. Check that it's working

Submit a test lead from an ad link and confirm the click ID appears on the lead record. Your Scowtt team can also check a sample of recent leads for you.

If click IDs are missing

If you choose to share a hashed email address or phone number, it can help platforms match leads that don't have a click ID. It's always hashed before upload, and it's optional.
