Scowtt Lead Attribution Audit: Chrome extension help
Summary: Check from your browser whether your lead attribution chain works, from ad tags and form click IDs through enhanced conversions for leads to your CRM. This page covers installing the extension, running an audit, reading the results, and getting help.
What it does
Scowtt Lead Attribution Audit is a Chrome extension that opens in the browser's side panel. It checks whether your lead attribution works, so that Google Ads can optimize on real leads:
ad tags → form click-ID capture → enhanced conversions for leads → CRM → Google Ads and Meta
It shows the audit as four cards, in this order:
- Tags. Every ad tag found on the page, whether it is installed, and whether it is firing. Google and Meta are audited. Other platforms (TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Advertising, Shopify) are listed only.
- Form submission health. Your lead form's email and phone fields and its hidden click-ID fields. After you submit a test lead, it shows which click IDs the form's own request carried, and whether the Google Ads conversion and the Meta pixel carried hashed email or phone.
- CRM check. The test lead's made-up email is copied for you and your CRM is opened. You confirm the record exists and that it holds the click ID.
- ECL enablement. Whether Google Ads enhanced conversions for leads and Meta automatic advanced matching are turned on. You confirm what you see, and your confirmation takes priority over what the extension read.
Every item says how it was found ("How we know") and how to fix it ("How to fix"). The extension also says what it cannot verify from a browser. It never decides pass or fail on its own judgement. The results come from the checks.
Before you start
- Use Google Chrome, version 116 or later.
- Only audit sites you own or are authorized to test.
- The test lead creates a real lead on the site. Use it only where testing is allowed.
- To use the optional Ask assistant, you need an Anthropic API key from Scowtt. It is capped and Scowtt can revoke it. The audit cards work without it.
Install
- Open the install link Scowtt sent you: Chrome Web Store link.
- Select Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
- Select the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Scowtt Lead Attribution Audit.
The extension is unlisted. It does not appear in Web Store search, and only people with the link can install it. Updates are applied automatically.
Run an audit
- Open the page with your lead form (the form page, not the thank-you page).
- Select the extension icon. The side panel opens.
- Select Allow access to sites and accept Chrome's prompt. This is asked once. The extension reads nothing until you do, and you can withdraw the permission in Chrome at any time.
- The four cards fill in. Open any item to see How we know and How to fix.
- In the Form submission health card, use the test bar:
- Run population test reloads the tab with made-up test click IDs in the URL to check that your form picks them up.
- Open forms for me opens popups and modals that hold a lead form. It clicks only buttons whose label looks like it opens a lead form. It never clicks links, anything inside a form, or buttons such as buy, sign in, accept or download.
- Fill test lead fills the empty, visible fields with a made-up name, email and phone.
- Submit the form yourself and complete any captcha. The extension never submits a form for you.
- The panel updates as the thank-you page loads and the conversion fires. If the thank-you page replaces the form without reloading, the panel still updates.
- In the CRM check card, open your CRM and search for the test email (it was copied for you). Confirm that the record and its click ID are there.
- In the ECL enablement card, open your Google Ads conversion settings page. The extension can read the enhanced-conversions-for-leads setting there when you press Open the row and read it. It opens that one row, reads its checkbox, and closes the row again. It changes no setting.
- Copy, download or email the report.
Use Reset this test to run another test lead on the same tab. Use Start over to clear everything.
Using Ask (optional)
Ask opens an assistant powered by Claude. It uses the extension's checks as tools and helps where judgement is needed, such as finding the lead form, reading an ambiguous field, or explaining a fix. It does not decide pass or fail and does not contradict the cards.
To set it up:
- Open the extension's settings (the gear icon in the panel).
- Paste the Anthropic API key Scowtt gave you or bring your own key and save.
The key is stored only in this browser. It is sent only to api.anthropic.com, and only when you ask a question.
Privacy at a glance
- It does not read what you type. It looks at field attributes (type, name, id, autocomplete) and whether a click-ID field holds a value, never the values.
- It does not store cookie values, hashes, passwords or page text.
- It reads a form's request only to find the test lead's made-up email and the test click IDs. It keeps the destination and the key names, nothing else.
- It does not change the page. It does not patch browser built-ins or run code in the page while it loads, and it stays out of captcha frames.
- Page text is searched only on platform pages you opened on purpose (Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, Salesforce, HubSpot), and only for click-ID names.
Full details: Privacy policy.
What it cannot check
- Server-side conversions (Conversions API) data.
- The Google Tag Manager user-data setting, which is reported as inferred.
- Meta account settings and your CRM record. A person has to confirm these.
- Forms inside closed shadow roots.
Troubleshooting
The cards are empty. Make sure you selected Allow access to sites. Reload the page. Check that you are on the website tab and not a Chrome internal page.
A tag shows as installed but not firing. The site may be waiting for cookie consent. Accept it, then rescan.
The submit button is disabled after filling the form. Bot protection such as a captcha may need completing. The extension stays out of captcha frames on purpose, so complete it yourself.
Fill test lead does nothing. Only empty, visible fields are filled. Use Open forms for me if the form is in a popup, or fill the fields yourself.
No conversion request seen after submitting. The conversion may have fired on a page you left. Check the thank-you page, and use Reset this test if you need a clean run.
Ask says the key is invalid or over its limit. The key may have been revoked or reached its spending cap. Contact support to get a new one.
The panel says the scanner is out of date. Chrome has not finished updating the extension. Go to chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, select Update, and reload the tab.
